El Portal Marmot Update
The first afternoon and night of trapping yielded only one really
cheesed-off California ground squirrel. The traps were baited with apple
and whole-wheat bagels smeared with hummus (so now you know what I have for
lunch). Today, I added a dish of water, thinking that the animal, usually
found in a more lush habitat, would be getting thirsty in the baking
climate of El Portal. I will be checking the traps throughout the day. So,
please continue to report any sightings to me, and continue to be aware of
the possibility of the marmot enjoying the antifreeze from you car.
Also, I'm in need of more bait, especially fruit, so if you have any fruit
past the pale in El Portal, contact me. No oozing holey envelopes, please.
I will provide pick up service. Thanks! (S. Thompson, 6/24/09)
