The long course went from the Sentinel Picnic area by the 4 mile trail down to El Cap crossover and back. This photo shows the relay race in Leidig Meadow, Yosemite Valley

We ran into 2 disabled women Cross Country skiers on the Glacier Point Road in Yosemite on Friday. They were heading out to the Glacier Point hut for a overnight stay.
Today was another perfect day for cross country skiing, snow shoeing down hill skiing or whatever you would like to do in Yosemite. Warm temperatures and a abundance of snow make it a perfect winter playground.
I have seen huge groups of photographers about no doubt here for the Horsetail Fall Firefall event happening right now. To bad there have been very few clear days to see the waterfall.

California's best snowshoe trek is within reach of anyone who can walk 7 miles.
If you can't do that now, the payoff at Yosemite National Park's Dewey Point should be enough to inspire you to get in shape so that you can.
Dewey Point is perched at 7,385 feet on the south rim of Yosemite Valley. The exhilaration of the view hits all at once, as you seem to tower over El Capitan, directly across the valley. To your right is Cathedral Spire and beyond that is Taft Point. Below is Yosemite Valley leading to Half Dome. You can also take in the distant Clark and Cathedral ranges, wilderness now covered with a blanket of snow, crowned on the horizon by Echo Peak, Matterhorn Peak and other frozen mountaintops.
This is California's greatest showpiece. In summer, visitors come from all over the world to take in this panorama. Yet in winter, you can often have Dewey Point all to yourself.
How hard is the trip? Well, it can go either way: It can be easy - or it can be very difficult.
The 1st view is at Inspiration Point in Yosemite on the way up to Badger Pass. We then cross country ski out to Dewey Point, a 8 mile round trip from Badger Pass ski area in Yosemite. Dewey Point is this amazing rib that just out over Yosemite Valley and overs views of El Capitan, Yosemite Valley, Half Dome and the High Sierra. The mountains are blanketed in fresh snow.
Yosemite got several inches of new snow overnight and today dawned clear and cold. We headed out to Dewey Point today, a 8 mile round trip cross country ski to a rib that juts out over Yosemite Valley.
Backcountry bliss Reward at the end of the trail is great for those making trek to Dewey Point.

YOSEMITE -- Mother Nature can be such a tease.
During the 3.5-mile journey to Dewey Point, cross-country skiers and snowshoers are allowed only a glimpse of the grandeur ahead.
A peek here. A break in the forest there. But nothing that prepares you for the wallop to come.
Then it happens. Across a narrow gully, up and over a small hill, down into a clearing and -- pow! -- the enormity of it all hits you like Ray Lewis hits a running back. Spread out before your eyes is a winter panorama so breathtaking it can't possibly be real.
But it is. "You know it's here, and you know you're coming to something," said Theresa Ballestin of Shasta Valley, who visited Dewey Point for the first time last week with her husband, John. "But you don't see it until you come over that little rise. Your jaw drops, and you're speechless. The view literally makes you gasp." And what a view. El Capitan, so imposing from the Valley floor, looks like just another big rock from up here.
Panoramic photo of the Clark Range from Clark View on the Glacier Point Road in Yosemite. This is about a 6 mile ski out from Badger Pass Ski area. A great place for a picnic and Mt Clark is center.
Today was a warm Blue Bird day and it was no different cross country sking on Yosemite's Glacier Point Road. It was so warm we wore just regular shirts and pants.
This is skating past what they call "Clark's View" and is about 6 miles out on the Glacier Pont Road from Badger Pass. This is a great lunch spot with huge vistas of Mt Clark.
The cross country skiing on the Glacier Point road yesterday was perfect. The groomers had smoothed the nice powder to make for perfect skiing. We started at Badger Pass and went all the way to Bridalveil Creek, about 4 miles. It was not crowded at all and we saw 1 snowshoer and 4 skiers.
